Dr. Carl Wetzig

Carl Wetzig

It is with deep sorrow that I am writing today to let you know that Dr. Carl Wetzig has passed away.   Dr. Wetzig was safely riding his bicycle in a designated bicycle lane in Bradenton, Florida, while on vacation with his wife, Carol.  He was involved in a collision and suffered severe injuries that resulted in his death.

As many of you have experienced, Dr. Wetzig was an exceptional ophthalmologist. And for me, Carl was an exceptional colleague.  He was a mentor during my early years in Colorado Springs, and later became a close friend and partner.  We practiced together at the former office on South Tejon starting in 2009, and moved the practice to our current location in 2013.  All of us at Colorado Springs Eye Clinic are exceptionally saddened by his loss, and we know how important Dr. Wetzig has been in providing you the best care for your eyes for many years.

For those of you whose appointments have been rescheduled, we thank you for your patience in this situation.  We have been working diligently to accommodate your needs without sacrificing the quality of your care.

With this in mind, we have been fortunate to bring on a new ophthalmologist, Dr. Angela Mortland. For the last eight years, Dr. Mortland has been in the Air Force practicing at the Air Force Academy. She started with Colorado Springs Eye Clinic on March 1. We anticipate that you will find Dr. Mortland’s care and dedication to the practice of ophthalmology meets the high standards you have come to expect from us.

If you have any questions or concerns about your ongoing care, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  I thank you in advance for your understanding during this transition and for your care and concern for Dr. Wetzig’s family.

Sincerely yours,

Steven H. Dewey, MD
